A Study of the Onset and Development of Stuttering

  • 1 This study was carried out with the collaboration and assistance of Drs. Charles Van Riper, Dorothy Davis, Hartwell Scarbrough, Yuba Hunsley, Frank Bakes, Lee Edward Travis, Miss Susan Dwyer and several others who were serving during the course of the study as assistants in connection with the speech pathology program at the University of Iowa. Three M. D.'s, Drs. Edward Lee Russell, Santa Ana, California; H. F. Shirley, University of Iowa Psychopathic Hospital; and M. L. Floyd, Department of Pediatrics of the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, assisted with special examinations. Special funds were provided by the Laura Spelman-Rockefeller Foundation through the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station. Dr. George D. Stoddard, Director of the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station, and Dr. Lee Edward Travis, then of the University of Iowa, authorized and supported the investigation. A detailed report of the study is scheduled to be published by the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station.
