A reliable technique of vocal rehabilitation for laryngectomized patients was devised by Ryozo Asai in 1959. This type of laryngoplasty is described in three planned stages; since first described, it has been modified in specific cases. This method presents considerable advantages over other techniques of voice rehabilitation. Speech exercises are presented so that they may be utilized by the physician or persons assigned to the task of rehabilitating patients who have had the Asai Laryngoplasty.
